Bees cook wasp invader

This video shows bees mobbing a wasp present in their hive. The close-up demonstrates them generating heat by contracting their wing muscles.

  1. Yes, apparently they used an infra-red camera. The video itself was filmed through an observation window. This video was published on the New Scientist webpage… couldn’t find a corresponding paper.

    That said, the same guy (Barret Klein) did a study on the effects of sleep deprivation of the efficacy of honey bee waggle dance. Found that sleep deprivation impairs efficacy of the waggle dance. Pretty neat. There’s a video of that too:
